The Shetland Pony

The Shetland Pony

"Hi, my name is Ben Maher and I compete at Show Jumping for my country, Britain. My claim to fame was winning the Speed Derby twice and DFS Derby at Hickstead and I won a gold medal at the European Championships on the Young Rider Team."

Please follow me and my furry friends over the coming months!

The first port of call is my first ever Shetland pony called Dougal. I started riding him when I was 6 years old.

Let me tell you a bit about the Shetland Pony:

The Shetland pony is small but strong and comes from the Shetland Islands off Scotland. Their maximum height is about 10.2 hands high. They are used for riding and driving.Breed standard is not to exceed 42". Traditionally they were used for carrying the peat in from the hills.
